The youngster "accidently discharged a pistol," CBS News reports, killing his mother, 29, on Monday.
Policeman Djuan, the boy's father, was reportedly at work when the incident took place.
The kid first told authorities the reason of his mother's death was a heart attack after officers arrived at the scene a little after midnight, according to a statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
He allegedly said that an attacker broke into the home, shot his mother, and then ran away.
However, it was stated that he confessed to killing his mother after more research into the slaying.
The statement said, in part, "The child eventually gave a true account of what transpired after initially fabricating a scenario that detectives found to be impossible."
The youngster will stay with his family, and they have been helpful. The family court system will deal with the situation.
There had not been a forced entry into the house when the Jefferson County deputies arrived, according to a previous statement.
It said, "Jefferson County Deputies received a 911 call for assistance at a residence in the 2400 block of Freemont Avenue in the Forestdale neighborhood on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 12:10am. When deputies arrived, they discovered a 29-year-old lady already dead. A male was seen leaving the house just before the 911 call was placed, and there didn't appear to have been any forced entry into the house. Detectives from the sheriff's office were able to gather evidence at the spot and are carrying out further inquiries.
Ayobiyi was referred to as "Yo" or "YoYo," according to a Facebook post from the deceased's husband, Djuan.
The funeral arrangements would take place on August 12, he wrote. Feel free to wear orange since it was Yo's favorite color as we honor her life.
